Hop's Recruiting Nuggets

Aggie Websider's David Sandhop drops a few recruiting nuggets about Kyler Murray, Mike Mitchell, and Soso Jamabo to name a few.

After all of the Murray to Oregon buzz from the Oregon recruiting sites, I have not heard much concern, if any at all, from A&M's point of view since. In fact, the staff still thinks Murray pulls the maroon lever within the next few weeks.

It sounds like the staff has finally realized that JUCO recruiting is a must in the SEC regardless of short term need. There's just too many elite, mature athletes to ignore this segment of the recruiting market. A&M has already offered the top JUCO DL's and we've talked about the CB Evans who plans to visit A&M in June and the Ags have a good shot to land. But the staff is also looking at JUCO LB's, and the staff is back on former commit Lorenzo Phillips who eventually went to LSU. But he had academic issues and had to go JUCO.

The dominoes are about to fall in a very deep DB class. There's just too many good prospects for the available quality spots, so when the music starts recruits will be looking for a chair. Kendall Sheffield is about the only kid that can wait it out. The others will move by early summer. I think A&M likely comes away with Lane from Nacogdoches and the JUCO Evans. And the Aggies are still in good shape with Sheffield even though he waits it out.

Usually a high school teammate doesn't have a big impact on where a recruit goes to school...especially when that classmate plays a different sport. But I've heard that Avery Johnson's signing by the basketball team will help with Soso Jamabo. Avery himself told me he and Soso are great friends and would love to be at the same college. With Rodney Anderson decommitting, that has the A&M staff back on Jamabo much harder. If A&M works hard on Soso's recruitment, they have a good shot to land him.

I'm also hearing that things are getting serious with Ohio State transfer LB Mike Mitchell. He will visit in a couple of weekends. His younger brother is a 4-star hoops recruit that had committed to OSU as well. He had A&M in his top 5 previously and there's an existing recruiting relationship there, so I think getting both Mitchell's is a possibility and would be a coupe for both programs.
