Battle of the Brazos: A&M, Baylor open Big 12 play

The Texas A&M baseball team opens conference play this weekend with a split series against Baylor. The series begins Friday in College Station before the teams head to Waco for Saturday and Sunday's games. The red-hot Aggies are off to their best start since 1993.

SERIES HISTORY: The Aggies and Bears first met on the baseball field April 9, 1904. Texas A&M (20-2, 0-0) leads the all-time series, 164-120-4. The Ags lead the series 68-65 in Waco and 68-31-1 in College Station. Baylor leads 6-4 in neutral-site games.

HOT TICKET: The Battle of the Brazos match-up between A&M and Baylor is a popular event. Four of the top 15 crowds at Texas A&M's Olsen Field have been when Baylor comes to town. In 1999, 8,230 fans (3rd largest paid attendance in A&M baseball history) watched the series. On four separate occasions, more than 7,000 fans have attended the A&M vs. Baylor series.

TEXAS A&M QUICK HITS: Aggie hitters had 19 innings with three or more runs scored in their first 17 outings against Santa Clara last weekend, winning the series 2-1. Team RBI leader Cory Patton (21 in first 17 games) of Owasso, OK, is swinging a hot bat for A&M.

BAYLOR QUICK HITS: Baylor (6-13, 0-0) is seven games below .500 this season, but has outscored opponents 75-73. Head coach Steve Smith is one win shy of career victory No. 350.< br>
