"They really treated him first-rate, let him know how much they wanted him," Melton's mother continued. "They said they would love to have him as a running back. That they could really use a bigger back."
Asked if that was what she or Henry hoped to hear from the Horns, Mrs. Melton said, "It was pretty interesting to hear. But I wouldn't mind seeing him on defense. I like to watch him hit."
Oh, by the way, Mrs. Melton is definitely a football fan and Henry's biggest fan.
In terms of which teams currently make up the top contenders for Henry's Signing Day signature, Mrs. Melton said, "He's looking at everybody. He is looking at Texas and Texas A&M. And he's interested in Florida; they're coming on real strong. Arkansas is also in there. LSU is in the mix -- Oklahoma too. It's early (in the recruiting process). We're just starting to go see the schools."
One school, however, has actually had the Grapevine 4-star prospect checking them out quite a bit -- TAMU.
"One of his friends (Anthony Rader) likes Texas A&M and goes to College Station a lot. Henry rides with him. So he's seen a lot of A&M, the coaches and players."
With the Meltons wanting to make an informed decision, expect Henry to take his time and most of his official visits, if not all of them. And the lucky team to score his commitment will get one heckuva talent.
"Coach (Gary) Mullens said he's never seen as many head coaches coming by the school to see one of his players since he's been coaching. He said they started coming by when Henry was a junior. They'd ask about a senior player or two, then later ask, 'Where's Henry?'"
