Aggies, Red Raiders: showdown at Kyle

Heading into a conference battle with identical records, Texas A&M and Texas Tech meet on the gridiron Saturday in College Station. Both teams are looking to improve their post-season bowl prospects.

TEXAS A&M RECORD: 6-3, 4-2 (Big 12)
TEXAS TECH RECORD: 6-3, 4-2 (Big 12)
KICKOFF: 2:30pm CST, Nov. 13
SITE: Kyle Field, College Station, TX

Series history: Saturday's game marks the 63rd meeting between Texas A&M and Texas Tech. A&M leads the series, 33-28-1. The Aggies have won seven of the last 10 meetings in College Station. A&M and Tech have split the past 14 meetings, 7-7.

Rankings: This is just the fourth time the teams are playing when both teams are ranked. A&M is ranked No. 22 in the media poll and No. 23 in the coaches' poll, while tech is ranked No. 25 in the coaches' poll. A&M has won three of the four meetings when both teams have been ranked.

Tough task for the Aggies: Texas Tech ranks first in the nation in pass offense, averaging 411.2 yards per game. Texas A&M ranks 99th in pass defense, allowing an average of 252.6.

McNeal in the spotlight: Texas A&M quarterback Reggie McNeal was named one of 13 semifinalists for the 2004 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, which is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback, the Davey O'Brien Foundation. McNeal is the only quarterback in the NCAA averaging more than 70 rushing yards and 220 passing yards per game. Currently No. 6 nationally in total offense, McNeal has already shattered A&M's school record for total offense in a season with 2,687 yards in nine games.

Quotable Franchione: "There are not that many teams willing to throw the ball 50-70 times a game. They have a complete commitment to doing that and other things they do with their offense are unique. To prepare for it in a short amount of time is a challenge."

Quotable Leach: "I think he's (McNeal) really improved. I think he's better at throwing the ball this year than last year. He's also good at running the ball. One thing I think they do that's pretty smart is Reggie goes back there to throw first and run second. They kind of isolate him on that rather than cloud him up.
