Aggies head into season ranked No. 13

Head coach Billy Gillispie and his Fightin' Texas Aggies are charging into the 2006-2007 season as one of only three Big 12 teams ranked in the polls. It's the highest preseason ranking for A&M in over twenty years.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas- The Texas A&M men's basketball team is ranked No. 13 in the USA Today/ESPN coaches' college basketball poll. This is the Aggies' first preseason ranking in a major poll since 1980. A&M was ranked No. 11 in the old United Press International coaches' poll prior to the 1979-80 season, the highest preseason ranking in school history, and was No. 12 in 1980.

Defending national champion Florida is ranked No. 1, with all but one first-place votes. Only two other Big 12 schools are ranked, with Kansas at No. 3 and Texas at No. 19. Oklahoma State received votes.

Aggie non-conference opponents mentioned in the poll are UCLA at No. 5 and LSU at No. 7. Winthrop and Saint Louis received votes.
