Countdown 2007: Websider Impact Players - #21

Aggie Websider takes a look at 25 players who can make the biggest impact for the Aggies this year. These rankings are not based on talent, but rather, what contributions can be made by individuals to put Texas A&M back among the nation's elite programs. No. 21? Junior WR Pierre Brown.

He has yet to score a touchdown in his first two years at Texas A&M, but with a healthier Stephen McGee at quarterback this year, and a plan to stretch the field on offense, that could change soon.

Junior wide receive Pierre Brown, Aggie Websider's No. 21 Impact Player for 2007, is one of the fastest athletes on the team. At 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, he's also one of the larger targets for McGee at wide receiver.

What he's done so far

Brown played quarterback at Duncanville High School where he earned the district Offensive MVP award before converting to wide receiver at A&M.

As a redshirt freshman in 2005, Brown caught eight passes for 98 yards in 11 games. He started four games that season and also had three tackles on the kick coverage unit.

Last year, Brown emerged as one of the Aggies' top receivers and special teams players. He hauled in 12 receptions for 104 yards, including a season-long reception of 29-yards.

In addition to his emergence at wide receiver, Brown also averaged 24.8 yards on eight kickoff returns, including a 48-yard return against Oklahoma State and added 10 tackles on kick returns.

Why he's important

Brown is the No. 2 returning wide receiver behind Earvin Taylor. If the Aggies are going to be successful at stretching the field vertically in 2007, Brown will have to play a big role. With the departure of Chad Schroeder, A&M needs another receiver with speed and good hands and are depending on Brown to fill that roll and become another playmaker on offense. If he can do that, the A&M offensive arsenal will be completely loaded.

Brown needs to reproduce the production of Schroeder and L'Tydrick Riley from a year ago, and hopefully rack up even more yardage.

With those kinds of numbers, A&M will be sitting pretty, and Brown will finally get his first touchdown as an Aggie.
