Countdown 2007: Websider Impact Players - #6

Aggie Websider continues its look at 25 players who can make the biggest impact for the Aggies this year. These rankings are not necessarily based on talent, but rather, what contributions can be made by individuals to put Texas A&M back among the nation's elite programs. Senior defensive end Chris Harrington is No. 6 on this year's list.

Last season, Chris Harrington matched or surpassed his numbers from 2004 and 2005 combined in total tackles, solo tackles, sackes, tackles for a loss and passes broken up. This year, Red Bryant will be back and that should help Harrington have an even bigger year in his senior season. That's why Aggie Websider has ranked him as the No. 6 Impact Player in 2007.

What he's done so far

As a redshirt freshman in 2004, Harrington was one of the most dependable players off the Aggie bench, posting 14 tackles (eight solo, 3 TFL) and two quarterback sacks in 12 games.

In 2005, Harrington nearly doubled all of his statistics with 25 tackles (15 solo, 8.0 TFL) and four quarterback sacks in his first season as a starter.

As a junior in 2006, Harrington again doubled his production from the previous season, posting 59 tackles (30 solo, 11.5 TFL) and a team-high 7.5 quarterback sacks, and he did it without Bryant at defensive tackle, for the final four games of the season. His efforts led the Aggies in solo tackles, sacks and tackles for loss and earned him a spot on the first-team All-Big 12 team.

Why he's important

Harrington may not be able to double his production again in 2007, but with the return of Bryant, he should be able to improve once again. Bryant will force opponents to develop schemes for two defensive threats on the same side of the line, and that wasn't the case last year.

"That helps a lot," Harrington said. "It's going to take some of the focus off me and it's going to be hard for offensive lines to block us, especially after we start working some of our games."

Expect big things from this duo in 2007 and watch Harrington's numbers improve for the third straight season.
