Tchiengang narrowing it down

He's going to narrow down his list to five schools to take official visits next week, so where does that leave the Aggies? Aggie Websider's David Sandhop caught up with Tchiengang last night to find out.

Steve Tchiengang, rated No. 50 nationally in the class of 2008 by, will be narrowing his list of schools down to a top five on Monday, according to the versatile big man on Tuesday.

"I'm going to sit down with my family on Monday and narrow my list to five schools," Tchiengang said. "From there, I plan to take my visits and see where's the best place for me."

Tchiengang, with over 20 offers in hand, has seen his stock steadily rise since he hit the radar screen in last summer's AAU season with his athletic play and deadly outside shooting for a big man. He's attracted even more attention after his junior season where he showed off an improved post-up game and inside presence.

In fact, a who's who of college basketball continues to call the 6-foot-9, 220-pound senior.

"I just got off the phone with Coach Donovan at Florida," Tchiengang said. "But I think I've gotten it down to seven schools and I'll get it to five on Monday,"

So who are the lucky schools still in the running? "For sure I'm going to visit Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, and Baylor," Tchiengang said. "I'm going to pick the last two visits from Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Kansas State, and Boston College."

Tchiengang will discuss with Aggie Websider in more detail his final five school choices on Monday, along with his travel plans as he schedules visits and moves to his new school at Montverde Academy in Florida later this month to complete his senior year in high school. His previous school, Cypress Christian in the Houston area, disbanded its basketball program following last season.
