Texas A&M crushes Baylor 34-10

A Kyle Field crowd of 82,970 saw Texas A&M open Big 12 conference play with a crushing 34-10 win over Baylor on Saturday afternoon in College Station. Stephen McGee passed for 200 yards and rushed for 110 yards, Jorvorskie Lane rushed for 124 yards, and the Aggie defense held Baylor to 7 first downs and 60 yards rushing to lead the Aggies.

Stephen McGee passed for 200 yards and rushed for 110 yards, Jorvorskie Lane rushed for 124 yards, and the Aggie defense held Baylor to 7 first downs and 60 yards rushing to lead the Aggies. Texas A&M improves to 4-1 for the season.

Texas A&M took the opening kickoff and drove to the Baylor 30-yard line before having to settle for an attempted field goal. Matt Szymanski's 47-yard field goal attempt missed wide right. On their second possession, the Aggies drove from their 11-yard line to the Bear 11-yard line before again being forced to attempt a field goal. This time Matt Syzmanski's attempt was good from 28 yards to give the Aggies a 3-0 lead at 4:14 in the first quarter.

After A&M had taken possession on an interception by Aggie defensive back Marquis Carpenter, Baylor returned the favor when Bear rover Jake La Mar intercepted a Stephen McGee pass and returned it 27 yards to the Aggie 26-yard line. Unable to move the ball, Baylor's Caleb Allen kicked a 46-yard field goal to tie the game 3-all as time ran out in the first quarter.

Texas A&M drove to the Baylor 17-yard line before Matt Szymanski missed a 34-yard field goal attempt wide left. Late in the second quarter the Aggies went 70 yards on 4 plays, with Michael Goodson scoring on a 58 pass from Stephen McGee. Szymanki's extra point gave the Aggies a 10-3 halftime lead.

Baylor received the opening kickoff of the second half but was again forced to punt. The Aggies took the ball and drove 85 yards in 9 plays. After Stephen McGee completed a 49-yard pass to Kerry Franks, Jorvorskie Lane dove over from the 1-yard line for his eighth touchdown of the year. Szymanki's extra point opened up a 17-3 Aggie lead at 10:45 in the third quarter.

The next Baylor possession ended when Marquis Carpenter recorded his second interception and returned it to the Baylor 19-yard line. The Aggies drove to the Baylor 4-yard line before having to settle for a 23-yard Matt Szymanski field goal to take a 20-3 lead midway through the third quarter.

Late in the third quarter the Aggies drove to the Baylor 20-yard line, before missing a field goal on the second play of the fourth quarter. Baylor quarterbacl Blake Szymanski completed a 69-yard pass to David Gettis to move the ball to the Aggie 3-yard line. From there, Jay Finley scored on a 3-yard run and the extra point by Shea Brewster cut the Aggie lead to 20-10 at 13:44 in the fourth quarter.

After an exchange of punts, A&M drove 58 yards in 11 plays, consuming almost six minutes of clock, and Stephen McGee scored on a 2-yard quarterback keeper to extend A&M's lead to a more comfortable 27-10 with 5:39 left in the game.

The next Baylor possession ended when Aggie defensive back Alton Dixon forced a fumble by Bear receiver Krys Buerck and the fumble was recovered by Aggie safety Kenny Brown at the A&M 41-yard line. The Aggies drove down the field and backup quarterback Jerrod Johnson scored on a 5-yard run to make the final score 34-10.

Texas A&M dominated the statistics as they did the scoreboard. The Aggies led in total yards, 552 to 254, and in first downs, 31 to 7. A&M's time of possession was an amazing 43:18 to Baylor's 16:42. The Aggies had 352 yards rushing and 200 yards passing.

For Texas A&M, Stephen McGee completed 16 of 28 passes for 200 yards and 1 TD with 1 interception, and rushed for 110 yards on 17 carries. Jorvorskie Lane rushed for 123 yards and 1 TD on 24 carries. Mike Goodson rushed for 49 yards on 9 carries caught 2 passes for 54 yards. Kerry Franks caught 3 passes for 80 yards.

For Baylor, Blake Szymanski completed 12 of 35 passes for 194 yards with 1 interception. David Gettis caught 2 passes for 88 yards. Baylor's leading rusher was Brandon Whitaker with 26 yards on 6 carries.

Texas A&M (4-1) bounced back from last week's loss to Miami and open Big 12 conference play with a win over Baylor. The Aggies will look to maintain this undefeated conference record when they host Oklahoma State next Saturday night.
