Let the Madness Begin

A&M basketball coach Mark Turgeon wants to start his tenure with a bang, and tonight, the Aggies will "Crank Dat" 2007-2008 season up tonight at Maroon Madness. Aggie Websider has the full list of guests and will have a full report of the evening's festivities immediately following the event.

For the last two years, the Aggies have held Maroon Madness on a sport-court on Kyle Field following Midnight Yell Practice. It was believed to be the largest Midnight Madness event in the country, with an estimated 30,000-plus in attendance.

Because the event falls on a road game weekend this year, there is no yell practice, so the event will move to Reed Arena for the first time.

No problem.

Even though it's moving to a smaller venue, this year's event will be the biggest in A&M history, thanks to an incredibly innovative athletic department administration that wanted to make sure Turgeon's first Maroon Madness in Aggieland is a hit.

Hip-hop recording artist Soulja Boy will headline tonight's event, which has created a buzz around Aggieland for more than a week, and helped secure a who's who list of basketball recruits that will be in attendance.

The 12th Man Foundation estimates a capacity crowd of more than 13,500 for the event.
