UIL Realignment: Centex 5A Analysis

Realignment is coming around in February and everyone will find out what the new alignments will be in 2008-2009. Texasprepinsider once again looks at the teams in the state and what changes you might be seeing. We don't speculate with what if's, we use the actual numbers and collect them directly from the schools. Go inside the UIL realignment today.

CENTEX VERSION

13- Bryan, Killeen area
14- North Austin Area
25- Austin Area
26- San Antonio, Converse
27- San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Victoria
28- San Antonio, Del Rio

Current Alignments: 4A
16- Killeen, Waco, Brownwood
17- Austin ISD, Elgin, Manor

5A POSSIBLE MOVERS

Four teams are possible to move from 5A to 4A in this area, they are
Seguin (2054),
San Marcos (1978),
Corpus Christi Ray (1918)
Smithson Valley (unknown). With Canyon Lake opening up they were going to draw heavy from Smithson Valley but we don't know how heavy and if it would indeed pull them to 4A.

NEW SCHOOLS: we don't know if these are going to be 5A or 4A though we think Johnson and Brandeis are likely 5A and Rudder likely 4A

San Antonio Johnson
San Antonio Brandeis
Brayn Rudder

4A POSSIBLY MOVING UP
South San Antonio 2300
Vista Ridge 2182
New Braunfels 2144
Copperas Cove 2090
Midlothian 2059
Boerne 2026

4A POSSIBLY MOVING TO 3A
Austin Reagan 980
Fredricksburg 928
Brownwood 901
Burnet 958 UNCONFIRMED

3A POSSIBLY MOVING TO 4A
Castroville Medina Valley 1029
Pleasanton 1003
Mabank 984
Taylor 943

Currently the number we are working with as the 5A cutoff is 2100, we have 243 teams over that number so that leaves two below that to get there. McAllen Memorial and Copperas Cove both turned in 2090. Now if Brandeis or Johnson go 4A then the next up would be 2070 for Mission. These are if Smithson Valley goes 4A.

So with 2070 being the number the following teams go 5A
South San Antonio
Vista Ridge
New Braunfels
Copperas Cove
San Antonio Johnson
San Antonio Brandeis
Brayn Rudder

The following schools move from 5A to 4A
Seguin
San Marcos
CC Ray
Smithson Valley

Now the next question what is the bottom number for 4A? Over 1000 students at this point are 480 schools, with 245 in 5A, that puts 235 in 4A. Question is how solid are those districts in 4A and do they need another X amount of schools to fill them out. We answer that next time. This time is just 5A.

With that in mind here is how the 5A districts could look.

13-5A
This district could be interesting because of Rudder and Cove joining here. If you got both then there is a possibility of Bryan, A&M Consolidated and Rudder going back to Houston with some alignment with Magnolia and The Woodlands. If not then you have a nine team district that looks like this.

Belton
Bryan
BRYAN RUDDER
College Station A&M Cons.
Copperas Cove
Killeen Ellison
Killeen Harker Heights
Killeen Shoemaker
Temple

14-5A
Vista Ridge would join this alignment here making it nine teams but if you slide Pflugerville to the current 25-5A alignment then you have two eight team districts.
Cedar Park
Cedar Park Vista Ridge
Georgetown
Leander
Round Rock
Round Rock McNeil
Round Rock Stony Pt.
Round Rock Westwood

25-5A
I think New Braunfels winds up here along with Pflugerville to make an eight team district. Now the UIL could do something like move the BCS schools to this district with New Braunfels and move Bastrop to 13-5A.

Ausitin High
Austin Akins
Austin Anderson
Austin Bowie
Austin Westlake
Bastrop
New Braunfels
Pflugerville

SAN ANTONIO AREA DISTRICTS: Now it gets interesting because things get out of whack with the two new schools plus South San Antonio moving up.

26-5A
With Johnson moving into here and Smithson Valley going to 4A you get an easy eight team district with the NEISD schools and Converse schools together.

Converse Judson
Converse Judson Wagner
SA JOHNSON
San Antonio Churchill
San Antonio MacArthur
San Antonio Reagan
San Antonio Roosevelt
San Antonio Madison

27-5A
Seven team district here with South San Antonio joining up but how do you get it to an even numbers? I just can't see it happening unless someone turns in a surprising number.

Corpus Christi Carroll
Corpus Christi King
San Antonio East Central
San Antonio Highlands
San Antonio Southwest
South San Antonio
Victoria Memorial

28-5A

NISD gets their own district with nine teams, I think Del Rio goes to the Eagle Pass Laredo District

SA BRANDEIS
San Antonio Clark
San Antonio Holmes
San Antonio Jay
San Antonio Marshall
San Antonio O'Connor
San Antonio Stevens
San Antonio Taft
San Antonio Warren

Of course this is just educated guesses and we have a ton more numbers to collect but for now this is where we stand.
