Hall Set To Visit Aggieland

After the resignation of Dennis Franchione, Beaumont Central athlete Derrick Hall thought about transferring. But after a phone call from new head coach Mike Sherman, he's not so sure. This weekend, Hall plans to visit with Sherman in person to decide if Texas A&M is still the place for him. Aggie Websider's David Sandhop caught up with Hall on Tuesday night.

With the recent resignation of Dennis Franchione and the hiring of Houston Texans' offensive coordinator Mike Sherman, Scout.com four-star athlete Derrick Hall has been considering his options and is trying to figure out if Texas A&M is still the place to play his collegiate ball.

He's already talked to Coach Sherman by phone, but he'll get an up-close meeting with the new Aggie coach this coming weekend.

"He seems like a pretty good guy. He's laid back, but he's serious and wants to get things done at A&M," Hall said. "I'm going down there this weekend with my road dog (fellow A&M commit Blake Chavis) to meet him in person and check things out."

Hall isn't sure if the trip will be an official visit, but he's hoping to spend more than one evening with the coaches and players. "I've got to talk with Blake to see if he can stay the weekend, but I'd like to make it my official visit," Hall said.

While Hall is looking to talk with Coach Sherman in more detail face-to-face, he likes what he's heard so far over the phone from the NFL coach.

"He wants me to play running back for him and I like that," Hall said. "I watch the Texans and they are a balanced offense. They run the ball. Coach Sherman can develop me as a pro running back."

Shortly after Franchione resigned, Hall seemed resolved to find another collegiate home and was looking to set up visits to other schools, most notably Missouri, LSU, and possibly Oklahoma State. So where does the Beaumont Central blue chipper stand in the recruiting process before traveling to College Station for the weekend?

"I'm pretty solid to A&M and that's where I think I'll be," Hall said. "But my family wants to make sure I'm making the right choice so I'm still thinking about checking out other schools. You know how they can be."

Currently, Hall has a January 25 visit set to LSU. He's also talking with coaches from Missouri and Oklahoma State but hasn't set up a visit date yet.
