Brownwood (TX) offensive lineman Stavion Lowe continued his recruiting process over the weekend with a trip to Auburn. The 6-foot-5, 294-pound prospect made the 15 hour drive with his mother and uncle, but the long drive was worth it.
"I enjoyed it a lot. I made it to the Friday practice and I got to go eat and hang out with the players afterward," Lowe said. "I got to focus on the offensive line and how they were coached. I really like the staff and their resume' is great. They've put 16 offensive linemen in the NFL."
This was Lowe's third school visit, as he had previously seen Texas A&M and OU. Asked to compare his experience at an SEC school versus the Big 12 schools he's seen, Lowe had this to say.
"Auburn's coaches were great and the facilities are good like they are at OU and Texas A&M," Lowe said. "But was it different? Not really. If anything A&M is the different place. I get a different feeling when I go there. It's hard to describe. I've been there several times, and I feel good about it every time I leave."
With that said, Lowe says he's open to other schools, but admits that at this time he does have a top three.
"I'm a curious person so I want to see more schools," Lowe said. "But right now, I'd have to say my top three are Auburn, Texas A&M, and OU (no order). OU is still evaluating me and hasn't offered, so that's a factor. It means something that some of these schools offered me early."
At this time, Lowe has only a return trip to Texas A&M planned for April 19 which is the Aggies' spring game. Given his previous remarks regarding the Aggies, if the visit goes well is it possible that he could commit on the visit?
"I don't think so. I'm not someone who will commit on a visit," Lowe said. "I want to come home and let everything soak in, talk to my parents, and really think about my situation before making a commitment somewhere. I don't think I'll do it on the spur of the moment on a visit."
The Brownwood native indicated that he'd like to make his decision prior to his senior season, and that the summer is a realistic timetable to end the recruiting process.
"I want to be committed before the season, so hopefully I'll have this all worked out in the summer," Lowe said. "I'm going to take it easy and probably won't go anywhere else for a while after A&M. I may start looking to take more visits in the May-June timeframe but I don't know right now."
Lowe is currently the No. 54 prospect on the M&W/Aggie Websider 2009 Texas Top 100, and his offer list includes Auburn, Arkansas, Kansas, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M among others while getting strong interest from the Oklahoma Sooners.
