Speed athlete Darius Jones of Marshall (TX) continues to add up the offers from major D-I programs, so where does that leave the Aggies? Aggie Websider visits with Jones about the recruiting process and his next planned visit to A&M.

Marshall (TX) speed athlete Darius Jones continues to see his interest rise among the south region's top Division I programs as evidenced by his new offers in recent weeks. The 6-foot, 175-pound prospect claims new offers from representative schools from the Big 12 and SEC.

"I was just offered by Texas Tech, and LSU sent an offer since we last talked," Jones said. In addition to these two new offers, Jones also holds offers from Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Houston, and Louisiana Tech which are all in close proximity to his home in northeast Texas."

Jones and highly-touted teammate Damion Smith have made unofficial trips to OKlahoma State and Texas A&M, and hope get a chance to see OU, Texas Tech, and possibly LSU. However, a return trip to Aggieland is next on the agenda for the Marshall duo.

"Damion and I are going down to Texas A&M for their spring game on April 19," Jones said. In fact, Jones admits that Texas A&M is a school he is comfortable with and that the Aggies are definitely on his mind.

"I'm looking seriously at Texas A&M," Jones said. "It's close to home and I like all of the 12th Man traditions. It's a school I've followed growing up."

The versatile prospect currently plays quarterback for Marshall and he's played numerous positions throughout his distinguished high school career. The Aggies appear to be recruiting the speedster at several positions as well.

"I've talked to their cornerbacks coach and the receivers coach," Jones said. "I'm not sure where they want me yet. I played both positions in high school and I'm comfortable anywhere. "

Jones and Smith have discussed attending the same school, and the conversation lately has been about the Aggies. Is there a possibility the duo could pledge to the Texas A&M staff on their return visit to College Station on April 19?

"That's a possibility," Jones said. Jones recently competed in a track meet last weekend where he registered a 10.5 in the 100, and his Marshall 4 x 200 relay team (which includes Smith) clocked a time of 1:28.
