Catching up with Weaver

Texas A&M has secured the commitment of one linebacker already this week in Malcolm Johnson. But Andrew Weaver may also be on the way. With a trip scheduled to College Station this weekend, Weaver visits with Aggie Websider about his plans.

With Texas A&M adding commitment No. 20 to the fold yesterday with the pledge of Klein Collins (TX) linebacker Malcolm Johnson, spots at the proverbial Aggie table are getting scarce. While Johnson addresses the program's needs at linebacker, the staff is still looking to fill 1-2 spots at the position. One of those linebacker targets holding a Texas A&M offer is Waco High (TX) product Andrew Weaver, who plans to visit the Aggies at the end of the week.

"Right now, I'm planning to go to the Texas A&M camp on July 13," Weaver said. "I haven't talked to the coaches lately because they are on vacation, but when I talked to them while I was there at the FCA Conference (at A&M campus), we discussed me coming down and participating in the camp."

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound prospect has been focusing more on offseason workouts and getting ready for the season which is why there hasn't been many new developments on the recruiting front.

"I'm working out hard, and also going though 7-on-7 drills with my teammates every morning," Weaver said. "I've been focusing on getting ready for the season, and I haven't called too many coaches in the past few weeks. Most of them are taking vacations anyway."

Thus, Weaver still lists Texas A&M and Oklahoma State as co-leaders. His offer list includes Kansas State, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Colorado, Baylor, Texas Tech, and Missouri among others.

"Yeah, A&M and OSU are up there at the top. They are pretty equal for now," Weaver said. "I'm looking forward to talking to Coach Kines and Coach Sherman when I get down to A&M. We'll see how it goes."

Weaver indicated that he has no other plans set in stone for the rest of the summer after the A&M camp, although he's still thinking about taking a trip up to OSU and possibly going to a Baylor camp.

"I don't have any plans yet," Weaver said. "I might go to the Baylor camp. It's right here in Waco, so I may do that. I've talked to Victor Johnson (former Waco HS teammate and OSU player) about going up with him to hang out at OSU. That's about it. I'm just working out."
