One more visit for Jones

Darius Jones made one more stop in Aggieland last weekend and this week, he'll travel to Oklahoma for one final visit before making his decision. Aggie Websider's David Sandhop visits with the talented wide receiver from Marshall about his big decision.

The recruitment of Marshall athlete Darius Jones has taken many twists and turns leaving fans of Texas A&M and Oklahoma on the edge of their seats over the past several months. However, the process appears headed for an end this week, but not before one final chapter to this story.

After indicating he was a heavy Texas A&M lean last week, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound blue chipper participated in the Aggies' one day camp on Sunday. Aggie Websider's David Sandhop spoke to Jones about the camp Tuesday night.

"I thought I did good. It was a great experience," Jones said. "It was my first camp at wide receiver and I learned some things. The coaches focused a lot on footwork which helped."

Jones made the trip to College Station with his mom, and it was her first time to visit Texas A&M and the first time she had a chance to speak at length with the Aggie coaches. So what did mom think of her experience on Sunday?

"I think she really liked it. She's heard a lot about it, but she got to see what everybody else has been saying," Jones said. "She was happy with the coaches."

Despite good marks from both Jones and his mother on the trip, the Marshall native did not commit as many expected which leaves A&M fans wondering where the Aggies stand at this point in his recruitment.

"Nothing has changed. I feel the same way that I did before the trip to A&M," Jones said. "The coaches asked me if I wanted to commit, but all along I've said I wanted to take one last visit to my three finalists and I haven't been back to OU yet."

Jones had previously visited LSU in June, but the Tigers were eliminated after that trip leaving the Aggies and Sooners as the two teams left standing. With his trip to College Station, that leaves his visit to Norman and then he'll be set to make a decision quickly.

"I'm going up there on Thursday for the day," Jones said. "One of my coaches is taking me. I just want to spend time talking to the coaches and get a feel for the atmosphere there. When I come back, I'll make my decision, probably on Friday."

Jones is being recruited by the Sooners as a defensive back, while the Aggies are looking at him primarily as a receiver although they've discussed playing him on either side of the ball. How does that factor into his ultimate decision?

"That doesn't matter too much. I'll be happy playing anywhere," Jones said. "I'm going to be looking at everything when I make my decision. The relationship with the coaches, the schemes they run, playing time, winning tradition, and the atmosphere and how comfortable I feel there will be factors in my choice."

Aggie Websider will have full coverage of his pending decision on Friday.
