Texas A&M used a 21-point third quarter and took advantage of 3 interceptions to defeat the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday afternoon, earning their second Big 12 win in a row. Jerrod Johnson passed for 214 yards and 3 TDs and Trent Hunter nabbed two interceptions in the fourth quarter to lead the Aggies.
Texas A&M was held to 76 yards in the first half and trailed at the half 10-3, but came up big in the third quarter on both offense and defense scoring 21 points and forcing three Colorado punts.
The Aggies received the opening kiskoff of the second half and quickly marched 68 yards in 6 plays, with Jerrod Johnson throwing a 32-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Tannehill. Rany Bullock's extra point tied the game 10-all early in the third quarter.
Midway through the third quarter Jerrod Johnson connected with Jeff Fuller for a 59-yard touchdown. Bullock's extra point gave the Aggies a 17-10 lead.
On Texas A&M's next possession, Cyrus Gray broke a 54-yard run to move the Aggies to the Buffalo 20-yard line. Three plays later Jerrod Johnson tossed a 10-yard touchdown to Jeff Fuller. Bullock's extra point gave the Aggies a 24-10 lead at the end of the third quarter.
The Aggie defense held Colorado to just 75 yards in their first four possessions after halftime and came up with big defensive plays throughout the game.
Late in the second quarter, it looked like Colorado was about to take a 14-3 lead when Aggie defensive back Jordan Pugh intercepted a Cody Hawkins pass in the end zone.
A&M defensive end Cyril Obiozor sacked Buff quarterback Tyler Hansen on consecutive plays early in the fourth quarter.
Trent Hunter got his first interception with 8:11 left in the fourth quarter. After an Aggie punt, Colorado drove 98 yards in 11 plays and cut the Aggie lead to 24-17 on a 10-yard touchdown run Demetrius Sumler with 2:59 remaining in the game. After nother A&M punt, Trent Hunter made a diving interception along the sideline with 2:29 left to put the game away.
For Texas A&M, Jerrod Johnson completed 15 of 31 passes for 214 yards and 3 TDs. Jeff Fuller caught 6 passes for 95 yards and 2 TDs while Ryan Tannehill caught 5 passes for 80 yards and 1 TD. Cyrus Gray rushed for 80 yards on 11 carries while Keondra Smith added 34 yards on 12 carries.
For Colorado, Tyler Hansen completed 11 of 23 passes for 89 yards with 2 interceptions, and rushed for 86 yards on 16 carries. Cody Hawkins completed 7 of 11 passes for 109 yards with 1 interception. Darrell Scott rushed for 66 yards on 10 carries.
Texas A&M (4-5, 2-3 Big 12) will now prepare to host No. 4 Oklahoma next Saturday.
