The Joeckels Make A Commitment

Usually when college coaches are awakened late on a Friday night, it's not good news. However, that wasn't the case last night as the Aggie coaches received a late night commitment from not one, but two highly-regarded prospects in the state of Texas. Aggie Websider's David Sandhop spoke to Matt Joeckel about his decision.

The big recruiting weeekend for Texas A&M started off with a bang when twin brothers Matt Joeckel and Luke Joeckel both verbally pledged to the Texas Aggies after a Friday visit.

"Yeah, we both committed to Texas A&M," Matt Joeckel said. "It was just the overall feel of A&M and the people. The coaches are great. We thought it was the right place for us."

While the atmosphere and the interpersonal relationships developed with the players and coaches played a big role, Matt also mentioned the offensive scheme that head coach Mike Sherman is implementing as a factor in his decision.

"I like what they want to do on offense," Joeckel said. "They want to spread the ball around and do some pretty sophisticated sets and schemes. It's a good offense for a quarterback."

Twin brother Luke is at a big man competition today, so he was not available for comment, but Matt mentioned that his brother connected with Coach Sherman and was impressed with his background as an offensive line coach in college.

While the twins decided to commit late last night at 11:00 PM after talking it over with family and friends, the tough part was finding a coach that was awake to take their call.

"After we got home last night we talked to a lot of people we trust and by the time we finished and decided we wanted to commit, it was after 11:00 PM," Joeckel said. "We tried Coach Sherman, but he didn't answer. We called Coach Mcmillian but he didn't pick up. Finally, we called Coach Turner and he answered. We apologized for calling so late, but he said that with this kind of news he would have taken our call at 2:00 AM."

The commitment of Matt like closes ther book on the quarterback position for Texas A&M in the 2010. Luke's commitment adds another tackle prospect to a class desperately in need of blockers on the edge. In fact, the Aggies are currently hosting tackles Jake Matthews and Garrett Gamling this Saturday at another junior day event.
