Showers Confident In Abilities

Jameill Showers is a work horse and this summer he is working hard to hone in on his quarterback skills. Aggie Websider's Taylor Hamm spoke with Showers about his Summer and what he is working on...

Jameill Showers has a full schedule this summer that includes numerous trips to A&M camps and other QB combines. According to showers he is making good progress and the coaches have been impressed.

"At the A&M quarterback camp the coaches said there wasn't much I needed to work on. The main thing was I needed to work on holding the ball higher and to the right before my delivery."

Jameill is working with his teammates from Shoemaker this summer including Texas Tech commit Derek Mays, Romael Willis, and Andre Franklin to name a few.

Strength and conditioning is another focus for Showers this summer. Jameill is currently 211 pounds and he doesn't see himself getting past the 215 mark, "anything past 215 would be over weight for my size", said Showers.

"I want to work on everything, there is always something to improve on. Ive been to a few strength and conditioning camps this summer. I feel like I still need to improve my footwork. I do a lot of lateral drills, line drills, and jump roping."

Matt Joeckel is the other quarterback Texas A&M has committed in their 2010 class, but Showers looks at it as a chance to improve by competition.

"I am looking forward to the competition. I will do what I have to do to compete. I want the starting job."

Showers keeps in frequent contact with current starter Jerrod Johnson and backup Tommy Dorman.

" I look up to those guys. Jerrod is an amazing talent and he has helped me a lot so far."

Jameill wants to contribute anyway he can, even if that means red-shirting.

"The coaches think I can compete for a starting job. If I am not where I need to be when I get there then I will red-shirt."

When asked if he would consider playing another position if he didn't win the starting quarterback spot, this is what Showers had to say, " If I am not where I want to be then I would consider it highly. I am not to worried about it, I am confident I will win that spot sometime down the road."

Showers had to opportunity to throw to a current aggie prospect at the A&M quarterback camp in June, " I liked Trey Metoyer a lot", said Showers.

Showers will be attending the A&M camp on July 12th.
