Texas A&M opened their Big 12 campaign hosting No 15 ranked Oklahoma St on Saturday afternoon at Kyle Field.
Texas A&M led at halftime 15-14, but a challenged Oklahoma St Cowboys team came back in the second half to edge the Aggies 36-31.
After an exchange of punts to open the game, Oklahoma St drove to the Aggie 6-yard line before on 4th-and-one Aggie linebackers Jonathan Stewart and Von Miller stuffed Cowboy quarterback Zac Robinson for no gain, forcing the turnover on downs.
A&M went three-and-out and gave the Cowboys possession inside Aggie territory. On third down, Zac Robinson tossed a screen pass to reserve running back Keith Toston and Toston took it 40 yards to the Aggie 3-yard line. On the next play, Zac Robinson ran it in for a Cowboy touchdown. Don Bailey's extra point gave Oklahoma ST a 7-0 lead with 6:18 left in the first quarter
After an exchange of punts, Texas A&M drove down to the Cowboy 7-yard line before a penalty and a sack forced the Aggies to attempt a 32-yard field goal, but Randy Bullock's attempt was no good.
The Aggie defense forced another Cowboy punt and A&M drove 57 yards in 8 plays, with Jerrod Johnson connecting with freshman wide receiver Uzoma Nwachukwu for a 28-yard touchdown reception. Ryan Tannehill ran n a two-point concersion to give the Aggies an 8-7 lead with 10:51 left in the second quarter.
The Aggie defense forced another Cowboy punt, but A&M gave the ball right back when Jerrod Johnson was sacked and fumbled. Two plays later Oklahoma St returned the favor when a Zac Robinson pass was intercepted by Aggie defnesive end Matt Moss.
The Aggies took advantage of the Cowboy turnover by driving 51 yards in 5 plays, with Jerrod Johnson throwing a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jamie McCoy. Bullock's extra point gave the Aggies a 15-7 lead with 6:49 left in the first half
A 35-yard kickoff return gave Oklahoma St good field position. It took the Cowboys justs 5 plays to drive 53 yards, with Zac Robinson and Hubert Anyiam connecting for a 27-yard touchdown. Bailey's extra point cut the Aggie lead to 15-14 at the 4:52 mark of the second quarter.
Jerrod Johnson and the Aggies drove 71 yards to the Oklahoma St 1-yard line before incomplete passes on 3rd and 4th down resulted in no points for the Aggies on this long drive. The Cowboys ran out the clock to end the half, happy to be only trailing by one 15-14.
The Aggies were unable to move the ball on their first two possessions of the second half. One the Cowboys second possession of second half, Zac Robinson found Tracy Moore wide open in the Aggie secondary for a 51-yard touchdown pass. Bailey's extra point gave the Cowboys their first lead of the game 21-15 with 8:42 to go in the third quarter.
Texas A&M immediately responded by driving 63 yards in 10 plays, and freshman Christin Michael scored on a 4-yard run. The Aggies regained the lead 22-21 on Bullock's extra point.
After another long Oklahoma St kickoff return gave the Cowboys a short field to work with, it took Oklahoma St just 5 pays to drive 48 yards, with Beau Johnson scoring on a 1-yard run. Keith Toston ran over a two-point conversion to give the Cowboys a 29-22 lead with 2:55 left in the third quarter.
Texas A&M drove to the Oklahoma St 25-yard line before another sack of Jerrod Johnson forced A&M to settle for a 50-yard Randy Bullock field goal on the first play of the 4th quarter to cut the Cowboy lead to 29-25.
Oklahoma St mounted a 16-play, 93-yard drive consuming 7:41 from the clock, and Beau Johnson scored on a 1-yard dive. Bailey's extra point extended the Cowboy lead to 36-25 with 7:15 left in the game.
The Aggies responded by driving 71 yards in 10 plays. An acrobatic 27-yard reception by Howard Morrow was later followed by a 3-yard touchdown pass from Jerrod Johnson to Howard Morrow. A two-point attempt failed, leaving the Aggies trailing 36-31 with 3:35 left in the game.
Oklahoma St was able to pick up a first down and run out the clock to preserve a hard fought 36-31 Big 12 road win.
Oklahoma St (4-1, 1-0 Big 12) was led by Zac Robinson who completed 14 of 25 passes for 279 yards and 2 TDs, and by Keith Toston which rushed for 130 yards on 26 carries and caught 2 screen passes for 74 yards.
Texas A&M (3-2, 0-1 Big 12) will go on the road next Saturday to Kansas St seeking their first Big 12 win of the season
