TeamWebsider Texas Tech Predictions

Here are Team Websider's fearless predictions for the Texas Tech game. After the thumping this young team took against Kansas State last week, a trip to Lubbock is just NOT what the doctor ordered. We'll see if this team has some character and can push through the adversity and the long odds to post the first win on the South Plains in 16 years.

There is no good rhyme or reason for this pick. Let's say it is a hunch like my Arkansas pick to beat Florida last week (if not for the refs, it would have happened). I could go into all kinds of hyperbole, but lets just say A&M is not designed to go against a smash mouth team and K. State was that. We are not the best in the world against the spread, but this is what this team is being built for, not one game every year of two against a KSU/SEC type team. All good things must come to a end and in Tech's case, it is the home winning streak against the Aggies.

This is a huge road game and I think they play a solid game and make it competitive into the second half. As with last year, the team can't sustain it especially in Lubbock where life has not been good to A&M in recent years.

I'm going to use the ole' reverse psychology on myself this week and go ahead and pick the team that should win this game and hope that I am wrong. All week I've had a funny feeling about this game. Every game the Aggies have played in this year, the players have gone in thinking they "should" or have a "good chance" at winning. Well it's time to go back to Lubbock. There is no doubt this team was brought back to Earth last weekend, but honestly I think it needed to happen. These Aggies are in NO POSITION to overlook any Big 12 opponent. NONE! Things won't get as bad as they did against KSU. We will give them a fight early and then our defense will get tired and the youth will be exposed once again. The only way we have a chance at pulling this off is if Potts has a horrible day and our O-Line has a career night. This game will end just like we expected, 0-3 in the Big 12 heading back home for ISU.

Streaks were made to be broken. The Aggies have lost seven straight in Lubbock and haven't registered a win on the South Plains since 1993. Hey, there's no getting around that A&M is reeling after that debacle in Manhattan, but as I've been saying from day one of this season this team is so young that they will surprise you with a bad performance and they will surprise you at some point with a great game. These guys have nothing to lose so I think they will play loose. I also think that Texas Tech is more vulnerable on offense than at any point under Mike Leach. The Red raiders are banged u at quarterback and rumor has it that third team signal caller Seth Doege may be forced into duty. Add in the fact that Tech is replacing their left tackle with their right tackle and inserting a freshman of their own at right tackle spot and I think Von Miller, Matt Moss, and Matt Featherston can bring some heat. If they can get some good hits on Doege and shake him up, they just may be able to create some turnovers and limit Leach's offense to 28 points. The Ags will need three big impact plays, and I think this is the time. Call me crazy…
