Aggies roll to 35-10 win over Iowa State

Texas A&M built on the momentum from last week's crushing of Texas Tech by coming home and rolling over the Iowa State Cyclones 35-10 for their second straight Big 12 win. Texas A&M never punted, as Jerrod Johnson (left) led a balanced Aggie offensive attack, passing for three touchdowns and rushing for a fourth, while Cyrus Gray had 119 yards rushing.

Texas A&M built on the momentum from last week's crushing of Texas Tech by coming home and rolling over the Iowa State Cyclones 35-10 for their second straight Big 12 win. Texas A&M never punted, as Jerrod Johnson led a balanced Aggie offensive attack, passing for three touchdowns and rushing for a fourth, while Cyrus Gray had 119 yards rushing.

Iowa St received the opening kickoff and drove to the Aggie 37-yard line where facing a 4th and 12, chose to punt. The punt went into the endzone for a touchback.

On their first possession, the Aggies mounted a 14-play, 80-yard drive, with Jerrod Johnson scoring on a 1-yard run. The extra point by Randy Bullock gave the Aggies a 7-0 lead with 4:55 left in the first quarter.

Iowa St again drove into Aggie territory before a Jerome Tiller pass was intercepted by Aggie safety Jordan Pugh at the Aggie 34-yard line and returned to midfield. After picking up one first down, Jerrod Johnson connected with Jeff Fuller on a 32-yard touchdown pass. Bullock's extra point gave the Aggies a 14-0 lead with a minute to go in the first quarter.

Iowa St drove to the Aggie 22-yard line before on 4th-and-1 Alexander Robinson was stuffed for a loss by Jordan Pugh and Kyle Mangan, resulting in a turnover on downs.

Texas A&M proceeded to drive 77 yards in 14 plays consuming over 6 minutes, and with the Aggies facing 3rd-and-6 at the Iowa St 6-yard line, Jerrod Johnson connected with Cyrus Gray on a screen pass and Gray took it in for an Aggie touchdown. Bullock's extra point extended A&M's lead to 21-0 with 3:27 left in the first half.

Iowa St drove to the A&M 11-yard line before kicking a 29-yard field goal to end the first half with Texas A&M holding a 21-3.

At the half, statistically the game was very close, with the Aggies leading in total yards, 207 to 188, and Iowa St leading in first downs, 14 to 13.

Jerrod Johnson had completed 12 of 17 passes for 131 yards and 2 TDs and had rushed for 24 yards and 1 TD on 6 carries. Cyrus Gray had rushed for 29 yards on 8 carries and Jeff Fuller had caught 2 passes for 41 yards and 1 TD.

Jerome Tiller had completed 13 of 19 passes for 82 yards with one interception. Alexander Robinson had rushed for 72 yards on 16 carries. Josh Lenz had 6 catches for 49 yards.

With Texas A&M receiving the opening kickoff of the second half, Lionel Smith fumbled the return and Iowa St recovered the ball at the A&M 24-yard line.

The Cyclones drove to the Aggie 6-yard line before the Aggie defense stepped up, with Kyle Mangan tackling Alexander Robinson for a 4-yard loss and then Justin McQueen intercepting a Jerome Tiller pass in the end zone and returning it to the 3-yard line.

Texas A&M drove to the Iowa St 27-yard line where Jerrod Johnson completed a pass to Uzoma Nwachukwu who fumbled at the 1-yard line and the ball was recovered by Iowa St in the endzone for a touchback.

On the ensuing Cyclone possession, Jerome Tiller connected with Darius Darks for a 45-yard pass completion to the Aggie 23-yard line. Facing 3rd-and-3 at the Aggie 16-yard line, Aggie linebacker Garrick Williams sacked Jerome Tiller, Tiller fumbled and Iowa St recovered at the Aggie 29-yard line. After an Aggie offsides penalty, Grant Mahoney missed a 42-yard field goal attempt.

Texas A&M marched 76 yards in 11 plays and Jerrod Johnson threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Howard Morrow. Bullock's extra point gave the Aggies a 28-3 lead one minute into the fourth quarter.

An excessive celebration penalty forced the Aggies to kickoff from their 15-yard line and Iowa St returned the kickoff to their 42-yard line. The Cyclones quickly drove 57 yards in 5 plays with Jerome Tiller scrambling for a 4-yard touchdown run. Mahoney's extra point cut the Aggie lead to 28-10 with 12:15 to go in the fourth quarter.

The Aggies responded by driving 80 yards in 7 plays. Fullback Jamie McCoy had a 38-yard run on the drive and Christine Michael scored the touchdown on a 7-yard run to extend the Aggie lead to 35-10 with 9:44 left in the game.

The Aggie defense forced Iowa St three-and-out. After a short Cyclone punt, the Aggies kept the ball on the ground to chew up the clock, and drove 61 yards to the Iowa St 1-yard line before taking a knee on three successive plays to effectively end the game with the Aggies claiming a 35-10 win over Iowa St.

A dominant second half gave Texas A&M the Aggies a decided statistical advantage to to match that on the scoreboard. The Aggies finished up leading Iowa St in total yards, 501 to 324, and in first downs, 31 to 19. Texas A&M took control in the second half with the Aggies picking up 18 first downs to just 5 by the Cyclones. The Aggies once again had a very balanced offense, with 267 yards rushing and 234 yards passing.

For Texas A&M, Jerrod Johnson completed 23 of 28 passes for 234 yards and 3 TDs and had rushed for 33 yards and 1 TD on 11 carries. Cyrus Gray rushed for 119 yards on 21 carries and had the 7-yard screen pass TD reception. Christine Michael rushed for 63 yards and 1 TD on 10 carries while Jamie McCoy had 52 yards on 3 carries. Jeff Fuller caught 5 passes for 67 yards and 1 TD and Howard Morrow had 49 yards and 1 TD on 6 receptions.

For Iowa St (5-3, 2-3 Big 12), Jerome Tiller completed 18 of 27 passes for 155 yards but with two costly interceptions, while rushing for 43 yards and 1 TD on 12 carries. Alexander Robinson rushed for 76 yards on 20 carries. Darius Darks caught 4 passes for 65 yards and Josh Lenz caught 7 passes for 63 yards.

Texas A&M (5-3, 2-2 Big 12) travels to Boulder to face the Colorado Buffaloes next Saturday afternoon.
