Ags Pursuing Mizzou Commit

Cortland Browning is a 6-foot-1, 195 safety/corner who committed to the Missouri Tigers back in March and has started to hear from other programs including Arkansas, Florida, TCU, and Kansas. As Websider predicted, this past week Texas A&M Coach Randy Jordan extended the Robert E. Lee defender a verbal scholarship offer.

Before transferring to SFA his senior year, Tyler Lee standout Derek Farmer brought a rare blend of speed and power to the Aggie offense. Farmer's cousin Cortland Browning could be the next Tyler Lee prospect to bring his own version of speed and athletic ability to Kyle Field, but this time on the defensive side of the ball. Browning is a 6-foot-1, 195 safety/corner who committed to the Missouri Tigers back in March and has started to hear from other programs including Arkansas, Florida, TCU, and Kansas. As Websider predicted, this past week Texas A&M Coach Randy Jordan extended the Aggie legacy a verbal scholarship offer.

"It was a good thing because A&M was the first school I ever talked to," said Browning about his most recent offer. "I like A&M. It's a good school and it's a good town and community to be in. It means a lot to me because I grew up following A&M."

It's always a touchy subject when you bring up other schools to prospects that are committed but Cortland is going to give the Aggies a chance in the recruiting process.

"I'm going to give them [A&M] a serious look," said Browning. "I'm really going to get to look around when I'm down there this summer for the 7-on-7 tournament. My aunt lives in New Orleans so we meet here half way in College Station a lot. I should be down there 4 or 5 times before the summer is over."

Browning plays corner and safety for Robert E. Lee High School. As a junior, he was an All-District and All-East Texas selection for his performance last season. That season also included 50 tackles and 2 interceptions, 1 of which he returned for a touchdown. As mentioned above, Browning's cousin is Derek Farmer and the two are very close.

"I'm going to start doing my research on A&M and what kind of defense they run and stuff like that. My cousin used to play there, so I'm used to watching their offense. I normally see him every day and we talk about A&M sometimes. I'm going to ask him questions and get his advice on the situation."

Although Cortland doesn't have plans to make any of the junior camps this summer, he does want to take one of his official visits to Aggieland, where he could decide to jump on board.

"I'm going to take one of my official visits to A&M. Then, I can look around and see what they have to offer. There is a possibility that I might switch if everything goes well."

Cortland is also a sprinter and long jumper for his school's track team, where he has posted a 21 foot long jump. Browning maxed out lifts of 225lbs bench, 305lbs squat, and 350lbs dead lift at a recent Tyler (TX) Lee weight meet.
