Florida RB in Contact

This running back travelled all the way from Florida to attend UTSA's advance camp. After good camp performance and then campus visit last week, he's hearing from the UTSA coaching staff this week.

Gerald Hearns has been in contact with the UTSA coaching staff early this week. While he was not immediately offered a scholarship, staff has told him they would like to keep an eye on him.

"I really liked the UTSA camp last week," Hearns told IRS. "I was able to visit the campus the day after camp. I really liked it, it was beautiful. If UTSA offered me, I'd definitely consider it. I could really see myself playing there."

Hearns does not currently hold any offers. At 5'7" and 203 lbs, he does not fit the prototypical measurements for a Division 1 running back. He knows this so tries to make up for that in other areas.

"I'm always high-energy," said Hearns. "Whether I'm on the field, on the sidelines, or in the locker room, I always try to keep my team up."

Out of Dwyer High School in Palm Beach, FL, Hearns is certainly making the most of his recruiting process. Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, and James Madison have all show considerable interest in Hearns. He anticipates visiting Georgia Tech in the coming weeks.

This week, UTSA staff requested Hearns' transcript and additional game footage.

"I talked with the coaches and they told me they'd keep tabs on me," said Hearns.

Although a bit undersized, Hearns is considered an all purpose type of a back. With 4.69 speed, he prides himself on doing whatever it takes to be successful on the field. He's translating that mindset into his recruitment.

"I'm just going to continue to go through the process and evaluate all of my options," said Hearns.
