All In The Family
Tony Anaya is a 6'3.5" 305lb offensive lineman that is getting ready to play his first season of Juco ball at Pierce Junior College. Pierce continues to be UTSA's strongest recruiting pipeline. "My first year, I took off. I gray-shirted and didn't start my eligibility clock by only taking a part time load," said Anaya. Tony is currently getting ready to put on the pads as a true freshman for Head Coach Efrain Martinez and the Brahmas, but that hasn't stopped some big time programs from already letting him know that they're interested. Oklahoma, Michigan State, Cincinnati and UTSA are just some of the schools letting Anaya know that they're watching closely. In already getting some classwork out of the way, there is a possibility that Anaya could be a May transfer after just his freshman year. If not, he'll simply return to Pierce for his sophomore campaign. Once Anaya knows if he'll transfer after his first juco season, he would have 3 years to play 4 or 2 to play 3 if he goes back to Pierce for his sophomore season. His older brother Franky being a former Roadrunner does mean that Tony is a little more familiar with UTSA than other programs. "I was able to see him more this past year and we flew out there for some of his games. I really liked it because of the Alamodome. Walking out of the tunnel and seeing the dome was pretty nice. I've gotten to the know the coaches and I like them," said Anaya. The UTSA coaching staff stopped by Pierce earlier this spring and has stayed in touch with Tony. They did let him know that they have their eyes on him. Anaya is slotted to play right guard this season for Pierce, but his O-line Coach has a philosophy that all of the Pierce O-lineman learn every position. It's adds to their versatility and if someone goes down, the chance to step in and step up. That mentality has already positively affected Anaya and he'll immediately tell you that he can play at any spot on the line. Scouting Report He's seen as a lineman who can both pass and run block. His feet have gotten faster and he's learned how to use his hands. Projects as an interior O-lineman at the D1 level. A legit 6'3.5" 305lb body can settle in at guard or center.
