Hoops Commit #1
Back in April, Austin Karrer popped on to UTSA's radar. Six months later, Karrer has committed to Brooks Thompson following a campus visit on Wednesday. "I really liked what I saw, it was a really nice atmosphere," said Karrer. "I just knew right away this is where I wanted to go." Karrer is a 6'3" 175lb shooting guard from New Braunfels Canyon. He's coming off a season that saw him earn First Team All District honors while shooting 40% from behind the arc. "The (UTSA) program is everything I wanted," said Karrer. "It's perfect. It had the family feel. They endorse character and that really hit home." Karrer burst on to the scene in a big way for UTSA during their Elite Camp over the summer. His impressive shooting and athleticism drew the eye of coaches. Since that camp, UTSA has stayed in continual contact with Karrer. IRS Staff listed Karrer as the #8 prospect in the San Antonio area. He is a wing player with a very quick release. Karrer has the ability to routinely hit it from three point range, something the ‘Runners are in desperate need of. He's also shown the ability to get to the basket as well. Karrer, who could see his stock rise with another good season, did have some interest from Texas State, but he considers himself a Roadrunner. "I am going to UTSA," said Karrer. "I'm going to be a Roadrunner, I'm set in stone." This commitment marks the second consecutive cycle that UTSA has landed a top local talent. Last year, the ‘Runners landed Luke Wilshire.
