DB Ready To Go

Another recruit from the 2014 class that took a "Gray Shirt" is this Cen-Tex DB. He is also very much counting down to getting on campus in January.

Once the Christmas and New Years break is over, Carl Austin will be enrolling at UTSA. The 6'2" 195lb defensive back accepted a "Gray Shirt" offer from the staff and will now be joining the team come January. He's excited to say the least.

"Man, you have no idea. It's been a long time, I can't wait to be up there," said Austin.

Since he graduated high school he's passed the time working a steady job, staying in shape and following his UTSA Workout routine. He'll do that on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursday's and Friday's. He leaves Wednesday's and the weekends to do some conditioning with his old high school coach.

Defensive Coordinator Neal Neathery and Safeties Coach Perry Eliano talk with Austin weekly and remind him that they're ready for him to get down to campus and be a factor in the secondary. The staff has him penciled in at Free Safety because of his size, speed and range. It hasn't been ruled completely out of talks, but he could also get some looks on the offensive side too.

Austin chose UTSA's "Gray Shirt" offer over offers from New Mexico and Army at the end of January when he decided to commit to the 'Runners.
