UTSA Lands Top Local DB

This local DB really sprang high up the UTSA recruiting board over the last few weeks. It all culminated when he committed to Head Coach Larry Coker and his staff during his visit this weekend. He talks about his commitment.

The good news kept rolling in for UTSA Sunday morning. Darryl Godfrey, arguably the best DB prospect in the Greater San Antonio area, committed to the 'Runners.

His commitment to UTSA is a bit of surprise as no more than two weeks ago he did tell our staff that his Top 3 consisted of: Michigan State, Texas Tech and Arizona State. Since that time, UTSA has paid him a home visit and then this weekend, his official visit to campus put the 'Runners over the top.

“I felt really comfortable with UTSA,” Godfrey said. “The coaching staff is great. Where the school is a plus, it’s really close to home. I felt like it was the place for me.”

As a DB, the coaching staff likes Godfrey at Free Safety. He stands 6'0" 180lbs and has 4.5 speed. He had good range and is an athlete that has the skills to be a "Ballhawk" patroling the secondary. As a senior he starred for O'Connor on both sides of the ball and also contributed on special teams.

“I’m a committed and dedicated football player. I’m a hard worker,” said Godfrey.

Godfrey was told he would be able to compete for playing time early.

Darryl's commitment is #24 for UTSA's 2015 class. He is the fifth DB. Godfrey is currently rated as a 2 Star recruit by our Scout.com National Recruiting Analysts.
