Juco DT Offered

In need of defensive line talent and depth, UTSA has has offered this former BIG10 transfer who is now looking to get back to the D1 level.

UTSA just picked up one signee from the Kansas Juco ranks, and they've offered another. Former Illinois defensive tackle, Vontrell Williams, was offered by the staff and is seriously considering UTSA. "UTSA came in, it was kind of crazy. They (Coach Neal Neathery) came in, they talked to my High School Head Coach and wanted to meet me at Butler. We talked for a little bit, from there they had a D-tackle in my mind, but he saw my film and wanted to take me," said Williams.

Vontrell was at Illinois for 2 years before transferring to Butler JC. He red shirted his first year and didn't play in his second season because of injury. After two seasons of just watching, Vontrell felt it was best to transfer and get a fresh start.

In doing so, the former 3 Star D-Tackle and 60th rated DT in the nation, has a nice list of suitors including UTSA. Louisiana Lafayette, Arkansas State, Ohio, UNC Charlotte, and Appalachian State are just some of his current offers that he's mulling over. Two SEC programs have shown recent interest as well, South Carolina and Mississippi State, but have not offered.

The UTSA staff was asking if Williams was willing to take a visit, but because of time and now the dead period, he was not able to. The only visit he took all year was to see ULL, but taking a visit isn't all that important to Vontrell as he's been through the recruiting game before.

"I would definitely be comfortable without visiting a school. Everyone has my stuff, everyone is going to tell you that they love you. What's important for me is to come in and play early at a high level. I want to play big time football, have my family watch me on national TV. I want to follow my dream and keep pursuing it of playing in the NFL one day," said Williams.

He reassured IRS that he would not be signing on Wednesday, which he did not. He will let things play out for a couple of days and then plan to make a decision before the Christmas break. UTSA is in the mix and could land the coveted D-tackle it's looking for.

"Whenever I feel it's time, when I'm 100% comfortable with it. That's my time table. It's (UTSA) definitely another option that I have. I consider it because of the relationship my High School coach and Coach Neathery have. It would be nice to play in a big city, just like Chicago. It's a great place and a great school. Plus I have family in Katy and Dallas," said Williams.

Whichever program lands Vontrell, he will 2 years left to play 2. He currently stands a legit 6'2" and weighs in right at 300lbs. He is set to be a mid year transfer and will be at the campus of his choice for January, preparing for Spring Ball. Out of high school, Williams chose the Fightin' Illini over offers from Michigan State, Indiana, and Kansas. Other BIG10 schools were hot on his heels, including Ohio State, Michigan and Purdue.
