Juco DT Signs LOI

A few weeks back InsideRunnerSports broke the news on UTSA offering and then picking up a commitment from this Juco D-tackle. On Thursday morning it all became official.

Thursday morning, before he actually set foot on campus for his official visit, Vontrell Williams made his decision official and signed his letter of intent, and faxed it into UTSA.

"The Coaches called me like 3-4 seconds after I faxed it in. They were very excited," said Williams.

In the end, there were just too many good reasons on why the 'Runners stood out to him and he didn't want to have to wait until his visit to make the final call.

"I had to look at the big picture. The main thing is UTSA is a good football program. They're fairly new and they have good football coaches. Coach Coker is a legendary coach and he knows what it takes in getting to the top and winning it all," said Williams. "When I looked at the strength of schedule and I looked at everybody recruiting me, UTSA has the best. Playing Arizona in the season opener and then Kansas State at home. It says a lot about our program, we have confidence and not afraid of taking on anyone."

If that wasn't enough, Vontrell does have family and relatives in the Houston area. A simple 2-3 hour drive down I-10 and family friends will be in the stands to see Williams line up on Saturdays.

He has his official visit set for tomorrow, Friday, and he's eager in checking out the dome and seeing where he'll be playing this fall.

"The Alamodome is huge too. Getting a chance to play in the dome is so much better. Playing in a controlled environment, having parents, family and friends to come watch is extremely convenient," said Williams.

Although classes have already started at UTSA, Williams plans to be on campus enrolled by next week. The 6'2" 300lb D-Tackle is a tremendous addition to the roster and will be fighting for immediate playing time starting in a few weeks during spring practice.
