UTSA Offers Versatile RB

This speedy RB picked up a UTSA offer this week, his ninth so far. Where does UTSA stand?

On Tuesday, UTSA Head Coach Larry Coker called Prosper HS RB Robert Mahone to let him know that the Roadrunners were officially offering him.

“We’ve been in touch for about three weeks. Coach Coker called and offered me today,” Mahone said Tuesday.

Mahone had a feeling an offer was in the works as several members of UTSA’s staff visited him recently.

“They came by and watched me practice about a week ago,” said Mahone. “They loved me. They liked what I can do being able to run and catch the ball.”

The versatile athlete says he likes what UTSA has to offer, especially Coach Coker.

“I know a lot about Coach Coker,” said Mahone. “I know he has coached a lot of great backs, like Barry Sanders when he was at Miami. That’s important to me.”

At 6’0” and 205lbs Mahone plays both RB and CB for Prosper. But UTSA likes him in the backfield. With 4.5-40 speed, he’s also a pass-catching threat.

“I’m shifty but powerful at the same time,” said Mahone. “I’m fairly versatile, I can play slot receiver too. I’m a good route-runner. I’m an all around player.”

UTSA will have some still competition for Mahone, who holds offers from: UTSA, Boise State, Colorado State, SMU, Houston, ULL, SFA, Missouri State, and Montana State.

“Right now, I don’t have any favorites. I want to visit UTSA and some of the others. By the end of July, I want to have my choices narrowed so that I can commit,” said Mahone.

Mahone says TCU and UCLA are also showing him some interest. While he hasn’t set his summer camp schedule he does plan to camp with both TCU and UCLA.
