Hendrickson Athlete Becomes Commit #2

After a strong camp performance last week, Carrington Kearney landed an offer on Friday and committed. The athlete talks about committing to UTSA.

Late Friday afternoon, Pflugerville Hendrickson Athlete Carrington Kearney got the call he’s been waiting for. It was the UTSA coaching staff, and they were calling to offer him a full scholarship. He didn’t waste any time and committed on the spot.

“It’s really just a dream come true to be able to play Division 1 football,” Kearney said Friday afternoon.

Kearney caught the eye of the staff last week at UTSA’s on-campus camp.

“I got invited to go to camp. I feel like I preformed well. I tried to stay in contact with Coach Pop (CB’s Coach Jeff Popovich) daily,” said Kearney.

Kearney says he was impressed with UTSA last week.

“I really liked the camp,” said Kearney. “It was one of the best camps I’ve been to. I really liked working with Coach Pop. His enthusiasm just really keeps you going and encourages you to work hard.”

Kearney plays quarterback for Hendrickson. At UTSA, he will make the transition to cornerback.

“I have played corner before,” said Kearney. “Nothing is really easy in life but I can put in the work and become good at it. With Coach Pop’s help, I can become great at it. The athlete is 6’ 0” and weighs 172lbs. He runs a 4.45 - 40 and admits his speed is an advantage.

“My speed is a God-given talent, I’m just glad to have it,” said Kearney.

UTSA is Kearney’s first offer. And while he’s visited before, he’s interested in seeing more.

“It’s close to home. I’m really excited to get down there and learn more. When I went to camp, I loved the campus.”
