UTSA is First For Davis

With three offers out at the point guard spot, it's clear that UTSA is looking to add another floor general for the the '16 class. This Houston area point guard is one of their targets.

Marlin Davis had been on UTSA's radar since last season, when the 'Runners recruited his teammate, eventual Houston signee Galen Robinson. At last months "Elite" camp, Davis was one of the standouts and he showed that he's a legit D1 point guard by carving up anyone who defended him and excelling in the open floor. He was offered shortly after the camp.

"It wasn't much of a surprise, because I had been talking to them. I talked to Coach Guster, one thing they liked is how I got to the rim and created for others. I can create my own shot and create for the team as needed. I liked the campus, it was bigger than I actually thought," said Davis.

While at camp he measured in at 6'1.5" and 165lbs. He projects as a point guard at the D1 level and that's where UTSA would like to use him primarily, but with his ability to shoot from deep and with accuracy, he could see some minutes at the two spot as well.

UTSA is his first offer, but Lamar, Texas State, Boise State, Tulane and Houston are all showing moderate to strong interest. Currently he's running with the acclaimed Texas Pro on the AAU circuit, a well known AAU team throughout the nation that features 4-5 legit D1 prospects, including 6'10" Center, 5-Star Jarrett Allen (St. Stephen's Episcopal/Austin, TX).

While staying busy on the summer circuit, Davis isn't exactly sure when he'll have time for another visit or camp. Despite that, he knows what he's looking for in a college.

"Just academically looking for a good school and as far as playing basketball, a coaching staff that trusts me. Somewhere I can feel that with my coaching staff and teammates," said Davis.

With the early signing period just under four months away, he's still not sure if he'll be signing early. It's something he wants to talk over with his parents. One thing is for sure though, his interest in UTSA.

"It's a school I'm considering. I like it and the fact that I got to know Coach Guster."

During the high school season, Marlin suits up for Westbury Christian School.
