Game Balls for the UTSA game vs La Tech presented by Pat Clynes and The Fritz Kennel.

UTSA fell to 1-5 on the season with a tough 34-31 loss to La Tech. But a couple of players had good individual performances. We hand out our InsideRunnerSports game balls brought to you by Pat Clynes and The Fritz Kennel.

Offensive Game Ball: QB Dalton Sturm

Sophomore QB Dalton Sturm made his first-career start Saturday. At first, things looked dismal. Sturm’s first pass was intercepted and returned for a touchdown. Later in the first quarter, Sturm threw another ill-advised pass that was again picked off. On that interception, Sturm appeared to injure his leg. But the Goliad-native never waivered or exited the game. Out there noticeably limping, Sturm found some rhythm. All told, the walk-on would have a nice passing performance going 18 for 27 passing for 227 yards with 4 touchdowns. The 4 scores tied a three year old program record for most touchdowns in a single game.

For his ability to overcome difficult circumstances and his exceptional performance, Sturm earns our offensive game ball.

Defensive Game Ball: S Duke Wheeler

Senior Duke Wheeler led the defense on Saturday. Making is second-career start at Rover Safety, Wheeler was everywhere for UTSA’s Defense. The Tyler-native record 15 total tackles (10 solo, 5 unassisted). The 15 tackles was just one shy of tying the program-record for the most total tackles in a single game. A former transfer from A&M-Commerce, Wheeler has cemented himself an important part of the defensive unit as well as the special teams unit.

For his exceptional performance, Wheeler earns our defensive game ball.
