UTSA Football Practice Notes 10.21.15

Injuries Galore: Several key players did not practice Wednesday. While Head Coach Larry Coker declined to comment on any injury specifics, we did learn that the following players were held out of works and/or injured in some capacity: QB Blake Bogenschutz, C Juan Perez-Isidoro, OG Austin Pratt, OT Jordan Gray, CB Trevor Baker, WR Kenny Bias, WR Greg Campbell, S Nate Gaines, S Justin Chavez, S Carl Austin, WR JaBryce Taylor, and OL Zach Hester. No information was provided as to the details of

Sturm Still No. 1: Sophomore walk-on QB Dalton Strum took all of the reps with the first team Wednesday morning. Regular starting QB Blake Bogenschutz is still being held out from a concussion he suffered vs UTEP.

Bogenschutz Expected Back Next Week: In an interview later in the day, Coach Coker announced that he expected Bogenschutz tor return sometime next week.

Down But Not Out: Tight End David Morgan said he’s trying seen UTSA have down periods before only to come back and finish the season strong. Morgan’s message to fans: “Have faith in us. I've seen us rattle off 5 straight before, it's doable. We can do this."

Family Mentality: Linebacker Drew Douglas said Wednesday that there is no frustration between the offensive and defensive players. “We're family. If anyone bashes them, you're the first one to step up. That's how we are w/ our offense or anybody that struggles."

Run The Table: Douglas echoed a similar sentiment as Morgan Wednesday saying every remaining game on UTSA’s schedule is winnable: “This is where it's going show our maturity to see if we can press through these next five games. We've been at low points before. We can still have a good successful season with what we have right now.”

Out on the Recruiting Trail: A large portion of the UTSA’s coaching staff was not at practice Wednesday morning as they were out on the road recruiting. He didn’t get into specifics but Coach Coker confirmed that this is their normal bye week protocol to have staff out recruiting.

Practice Schedule: UTSA will hit the practice fields again Thursday morning and starting installing more schemes for the North Texas game. Then UTSA will basically call it a week. Players will still do some conditioning later in the week. There will be no media availability until next Monday’s Media Roundtable.
