UTSA beats Southeastern Oklahoma State in the exhibition

UTSA Basketball opened their 10th season under Head Coach Brooks Thompson with a 92-81 win vs Southeastern Oklahoma State on Thursday night in the Convocation Center.

 

Lucas O’Brien exploded for 13 points in the first half on 6 of 7 shooting to help the ‘Runners shake off a scrappy Savage Storm team 92-81.

UTSA led from start to finish in the exhibition game.

J.R. Harris and Christian Wilson came off the bench to combine for 39 for UTSA. Harris’ 21 points led four Roadrunners in double-digits.

Wilson would score 18 points with O’Brien would finish with 17 points on 8 of 10 shooting. He also grabbed eight rebounds.

Ryan Bowie had a relatively quiet night scoring 11 points.

Coach Thompson substituted early and often Thursday night. 10 different players saw action in the first 10 minutes of game. A total 14 players would see action.

UTSA shot 51% in the first half from the field, they would cool off a little in the second half to finish the game shooting 44%.

One place UTSA struggled at was on the boards, SOSU out-rebounded the ‘Runners 52 to 37. Following the game, Coach Thompson said it was an effort and technique issue.

Game Note: Athletic Forward Phillip Jones did not play Thursday night for UTSA. He was noted as available by a UTSA spokesman. Following the game, Coach Thompson said Jones was battling an unspecified nagging injury.

Up next, the ‘Runners head out on a trip. The official first game of the season is on Nov. 13 at Loyola-Chicago.
