UTSA falls to UAB, 104-82

UTSA fell to 1-2 in CUSA play Thursday night despite an outstanding individual performance from J.R. Harris.

J.R. Harris drilled a program record 10 three pointers and scored a career-high 36 points, but it wasn’t enough as UAB used hot shooting to down UTSA 104-82. 

UAB, the consensus CUSA favorite, shot a blistering 70% from the field. The Blazers also scored 48 points in the paint. 

UTSA, of the flipside, was hot and cold. The ‘Runners began the game playing extremely well. Using crisp ball movement and good shooting, UTSA built a six point lead at the 13 minute mark in the first half. From that point on, UTSA struggled offensively as UAB would outscore the ‘Runners 40-14 to build a 20 point at the half. 

In the second half, UAB did not let up and pushed the lead to as much as a 31 points. UTSA wouldn’t get closer than 22. 

Four Roadrunners scored in double figures led by Harris’ 36 points. Christian Wilson pitched in 17 points. Ryan Bowie and Lucas O’Brien added 11 and 10 points respectively. 

UTSA is now 1-2 in CUSA play and 3-13 overall. The ‘Runners next play at Middle Tennessee on Saturday at 3 pm.
