UTSA Football Head Coach Frank Wilson has decided not to retain any of the existing coaches. On Wednesday, he officially announced the hiring of three new position coaches: Defensive Line Coach Eric Henderson, Offensive Line Coach Ryan Pugh, and Wide Receiver’s Coach Jeff Kastl.
Henderson joins UTSA from Oklahoma State where he was a Graduate Assistant. Pugh, a former National Championship winner at Auburn in 2010, comes to UTSA from Baton Rouge where he was a Graduate Assistant at LSU. Kastl, a former QB at Michigan, was most-recently an offensive analyst at LSU.
It’s been a busy week for Wilson. In addition to the three members officially announced Wednesday, Wilson has also found his two coordinators.
On Tuesday, FoxSports reported that Southern Miss Secondary Coach Pete Golding will become UTSA’s Defensive Coordinator. Golding has spent the last two seasons at USM. Before that he was DC at SE Louisiana and Delta State.
On Wednesday, InsideRunnerSports reported that former Jacksonsville Jaguars QB Coach Frank Scelfo is expected to join UTSA’s staff as the Offensive Coordinator. Scelfo has been an NFL assistant for three seasons. He worked as the QB Coach with the University of Arizona prior to his years in the NFL and was previously an OC at La Tech and Tulane.
The other reported hires are Ricky Brumfield and Jason Rollins, Brumfield was the CB’s and Special Teams coach at Western Kentucky while Rollins was co-Defensive Coordinator at Tulane.
