UTSA lands five in less than 48 hours

UTSA’s new coaching staff has made the most of the limited recruiting time available prior to National Signing Day. Over the last two days, UTSA has secured five verbal commitments.

UTSA Head Frank Wilson and his new coaching staff have hit the ground running. Coming off the last weekend of official visits, UTSA has seen an upswing in verbal pledges. In less than two full days, five players have committed to UTSA, four scholarship players and one preferred walk-on. Here are the details:

3-Star WR Marquez McNair
6’1” 185lbs Hinds JC (Miss)
McNair comes to UTSA from Hinds JC in Mississippi. The nephew of NFL legend Steve McNair, Marquez was originally committed to Southern Miss. But when USM Head Coach Todd Monken let for the NFL, that re-opened his recruitment. McNair, who was previously recruited by LSU (attended their spring game last year) had a relationship with UTSA Head Coach Frank Wilson. He’ll enroll at UTSA over the summer and have three years of eligibility remaining.

3-Star DE Solomon Wise
6’4” 220lbs Coppell HS (Texas)
After visiting UTSA over the weekend, Wise needed little time to make his decision as he announced his commitment almost as soon as his visit was over. From Coppell HS in North Texas, Wise brings a solid 6-4 frame to UTSA. He is ranked as the #20th defensive end in the State of Texas and held offers from Illinois, Kansas, North Texas, SMU and others.

CB Teddrick McGhee
6-2/180lbs Memphis East HS (Tenn)
The new staff certainly used their connections in Tennessee to find and land McGhee, a versatile athlete. McGhee played both wide receiver and corner back but will play in the secondary at UTSA. With good 6’2” size and decent 4.5/40 speed, McGhee is a solid addition to the class. McGhee held offers from WKU, MTSU, Idaho, Arkansas State, and App State.

OLB/ATH Eric Banks
6’5” 2l5lbs East HS (Memphis)
An under-the-radar type of recruit, Banks also comes to UTSA from Memphis East High School in Tennessee. A teammate of McGhee (the duo both committed Saturday night), Banks played QB in high school. UTSA likes him on the defensive side of the ball where he’ll likely line up as a defensive or outside linebacker

QB Clay Roberts (PWO)
6’2” 192lbs
St. Pius X HS (Houston)
UTSA’s pipeline in the Houston area continues as St. Pius X QB Clay Roberts accepted a preferred walk-on offer Monday evening. Roberts is a pro-style quarterback with good zip on his passes. He held an offer from Davidson and had some interest from schools like Houston, North Texas, Rice, and Texas State.
