UTSA has announced 17 new signees and 1 transfer. Seven players signed in December and 10 signed today (11 including the transfer). A look at UTSA’s 2016 signees:
S Jacquelle Green
6’0” 186lbs D’Ilberville HS (Biloxi, MS)
3-star recruit ranked #97 S in the nation. Was originally committed to Louisville but flipped to UTSA on signing day. One of the higer rated players in this class, Green could play at either of UTSA's safety positions.
WR Marquez McNair
6’1” 175lbs Hinds JC (MS)
3-star recruit originally commited to Southern Miss, McNair flipped to UTSA after coming away impressed with his official visit over the weekend. One of the more dynamic players in this class, McNair will likely come in and contribute immediately. He also has three years of eligibility remaining.
DE Solomon Wise
6-4/220lbs Coppell HS (TX)
3-star recruit ranked #20 DE in Texas. One of two highly rated Defensive End's in this class, Wise is another addition that jumped on to UTSA's radar late. With good 6-4 size, look for Wise to be a redshirt candidate to bulk up. He has the potential to be one of UTSA's better defensive signees, which says something.
DE/LB Eric Banks
6’5” 200lbs Memphis East HS (TN)
A quarterback in high school, Banks is a versatile athlete. UTSA announced him as a defensive end/linebacker.
CB Teddrick McGhee
6’1” 180lbs Memphis East HS (TN)
A teammate of Banks at Memphis East, McGhee brings a good 6-1 size to UTSA's defensive back. He's also know to be physical.
OT Josh Oatis
6’6” 280lbs West Harrison HS (MS)
An under-the-radar type of recruit, Oatis brings some size to UTSA's o-line. He'll certainly be a candidate for a redshirt but he'll definitely be one to watch in terms of how excels in UTSA's strength and conditioning program.
DT Franklin Uesi
6’3” 280lbs Diablo Valley JC (Cali)
UTSA went back to the west coast for help with d-line depth. On film, Uesi has the looks of a space-eating run-stopper.
DE Jarrod McLin
6’3” 215lbs Carthage HS (TX)
3-star recruit ranted #19 DE in Texas, McLin was one of UTSA early commits. With excellent size and speed, it will be interesting to see if he'll be redshirted or will see action as a freshman.
TE Jack Giblin
6’3” 210lbs Port Neches-Groves HS (TX)
A wide receiver in high school, Giblin was recruited by UTSA as a tight end. A physical receiver, Giblin will likely be a redshirt candidate to make the transition to tight end.
CB Carrington Kearney
6’0” 172lbs Pfugerville Hendrickson HS (TX)
One of the more athletic players in this class, Kearney will transition from a high school quarterback to a college corner back. He'll need a year to make that transition but he has the speed, size, and athletic ability to become a solid D1 corner.
LB Ronnie Feist
6’2” 225lbs LSU Graduate Transfer
Former 4-star recruit West Saint John HS in Edgard, LA, was ranked the #25 LB in the nation in 2011. Feist has one of year of eligibility remaining and can play immediately. He should be in the mix for early playing time.
EARLY SIGNEES (ALREADY ON CAMPUS)
LB Anthony Hickey
6’1” 235lbs Saddleback JC (Cali)
Hickey was the last signee for UTSA in December. At 6-4, he's a large linebacker. He adds depth to a position that sorely needed it.
LB Leslie Maruo
6’0” 225lbs Hutchinson JC (KS)
Maruo comes to UTSA as a protypical middle linebacker that will likely see time at UTSA's Mike LB position.
OT Tanner Myers
6’7” 310lbs Coffeyville JC (KS)
Myers is UTSA biggest o-line on the roster. Out of Kansas, he appears to have the size and foot speed to turn into that big/consistent offensive tackle UTSA has covetted.
TE Austin Blake-Smith
6’5” 240lbs Ventura JC (Cali)
Pegged as a replacement for David Morgan, Blake-Smith will have large shoes to fill. A length 6-5, Blake-Smith is deceptively heavy at 250lbs. His ability to block in UTSA's offense may be the determining factor of how much playing time he sees.
CB Brenndan Johnson
6’0” 175lbs Naval Academy/Reicher HS (TX)
A native of Waco, Johnson comes to UTSA by way of the Naval Academy. Look for Johnson to redshirt in 2016.
OG Stefan Beard
6’4” 315lbs Navarro JC (TX)
A former Baylor commit, Beard ended up at Navarro last season. Projected to be an interior lineman, Beard adds depth to UTSA's o-line.
WR Jesse Ebozue
6’2” 193lbs Arlington Bowie HS
A 3-star recruit from North Texas, Ebzoue graduated in December is already enrolled at UTSA. He'll be able to participate in UTSA's spring practices, as will all of the December signees.
