Just north of San Antonio lies the small school district of Cibolo-Schertz ISD. That is where Samuel Clemens QB Frank Harris calls home. On Wednesday following his classes, Harris and his family took an unofficial visit to UTSA.
“It was great, me and my family enjoyed it. It was a great environment. I like the coaches and just like everything about UTSA,” said Harris.
Harris and his family met with Head Coach Frank Wilson for 30-45 minutes. They came away impressed.
“I think he’s a great coach,” Harris said of Wilson “He knows what he’s talking about. He does a great job of recruiting people and I think he’s going to change the whole program at UTSA.”
Harris said that the school being in San Antonio is an advantage .But another positive thing Harris sees in UTSA is the culture of the new coaching staff.
“They’re rebuilding” said Harris. “But I think the program is going to go uphill because of the new coaching staff with what they’re doing. It’s definitely a great school and a great program.”
Harris holds several offers, most notably from Baylor, Bowling Green, Texas State and UTSA. At 6’1” and 180lbs, he fits the mold of a dual-threat quarterback. But his Baylor offer is to play defensive back. Harris prefers to play quarterback.
“I believe I can play quarterback at the next level,” said Harris.
One of the area’s most dynamic players, Harris is coming off a huge junior season where he amassed 4,781 total yards of offense with 55 total touchdowns. He threw for 2,069 yards and 17 touchdowns, while rushing for 2,712 yards and 38 scores.
“I like to have fun and I enjoy leading,” Harris said of his game. “I’m always picking someone up. Hopefully I can have a better season than what I had last year.”
A lot of schools have shown interest in Harris. That’s something that is not lost on him as he goes through the recruiting process.
“It’s pretty cool getting to know the coaches,” Harris said about his recruitment. “It’s a great opportunity to get your education paid for. I’m enjoying the process. I’m just very humbled and blessed to have an opportunity.”
While Harris is appreciative of the offers he’s received, he does not appear to be in any hurry to make any decisions.
“They say quarterbacks need to commit early. And everyone wants me to commit by the end of the summer but I honestly don’t know,” said Harris. “I’m going to talk with my coaches and my family then I’ll decide. But right now, I don’t know when.”
Harris is scheduled to visit UTSA during their Junior Day event on March 5. He’ll also visit Rice later in March and Houston sometime this spring. Clemens spring practices begin in April.
