FAU Ends UTSA’s Season

UTSA lost Florida Atlantic 82-58 in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament Tuesday afternoon in Birmingham. Game recap.

Florida Atlantic outscored UTSA by twenty points in the second half to turn a close game at halftime to a one-side victory.

“They (FAU) played well,” Head Coach Brooks Thompson said on his post-game radio show. “They deserve a lot of credit. I don’t think we played well.”

UTSA trailed by just four points just at the break. But FAU played consistent while the Roadrunners struggled.

“We tried to go small but we have no excuses,” said Thompson.

A major storyline for UTSA was the loss of starting Point Guard Christian Wilson, who played the first 5 minutes in the game before suffering an injury to his right hip. He was unable to return.

“We’re not going to make an excuse. Guys have to step up. But missing Christian hurt us,” said Thompson.

JR Harris led UTSA with 21 points on 8 for 14 shooting from the field including 5 three pointers. In his final game as a Roadrunner, Ryan Bowie scored 15 points. Phillip Jones added 12 points and 12 rebounds.

With the loss, UTSA is eliminated from the Conference USA Tournament. The Roadrunners finish the season with a 5-27 overall record.
