Steve Henson to Become New Basketball Coach

Sources tell InsideRunnerSports that Oklahoma Assistant Steve Henson will become UTSA’s next men’s basketball head coach.

Oklahoma lead assistant coach Steve Henson will become UTSA’s new men’s basketball coach, multiple sources told InsideRunnerSports Thursday.

On Monday we reported that Henson was UTSA’s top candidate and, that barring any issues, he would be hired.

Henson is a graduate of Kansas State where he was a First Team All-Big Eight Conference player. Following college, he spent six seasons in the NBA playing for the Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trailblazers, and Detroit Pistons.

In 1990, Henson began his coaching career at Illinois working under current OU head coach Lon Kruger. Henson has coached with the Atlanta Hawks, at South Florida, UNLV, and is currently on staff with Oklahoma. Henson and the rest of the Sooners are in Houston preparing to play in this weekend’s Final Four.

An official announcement from UTSA could happen as early as Friday.
