On Nov 11 the 'Runners travel to Fresno State of the Mountain West Conference for their season opener. The team continues to prepare for the Bulldogs and the 2016-17 season.

At Thursday's practice, the energy and enthusiasm remained very high. Head Coach Steven Henson and his staff focused a good part of the session on defense. The team worked on all the defensive basics while going full speed in preparation for the season.

Practice is now in its second week for UTSA. There are positive vibes along with a renewed energy. Watching a few drills led by Coach Henson, you can see he is extremely vocal with his players and staff. He led a conditioning drill called "Knicks Easy Run." In the drill the team is shuffling their feet side to side up and down the court to close out the session. It led to a good sweat for the new Head Coach.

Here are some other notes from Thursday’s practice:
-- Practice again started out with ball handling, hand-eye coordination for everyone.

-- Halfway through practice the team drew the ire of Henson, causing him to yell, "Move faster! Lets go!" During other practice sets, he could be heard saying, "Let's go!" or "Quickly!" Leaving no doubt that intensity, pace, and energy will not be optional under his watch.

-- Defensive presence really ratcheted up. Slapping the floor, getting down, and getting low for every defensive rep seemed like the norm. Both units, orange and blue, were very vocal and physical as they dove on the ground for loose balls.

-- Sr guard Jr. Harris was not limited at all. He showed good quickness and was cutting hard with no visible or lingering effects from his knee. The 'Runners will sorely need his offense this coming season.

-- Low post AJ Cockrell started off working out with the team but then went to work with the medical staff. He was doing some rehab exercises for most of practice.

--This is still very fluid, but here's the group who was blue today, running with the first unit:

  • SG Jr Harris (Sr.)
  • PG Gino Littles (Jr.)
  • SG/SF Byron Frohnen (Fr.)
  • SG George Willborn III (Fr.)
  • Lucas O'Brien (Sr.)
  • PF Nick Allen (So.)
  • PF Jeff Beverly (Jr.)
