UTSA played their best game of the season defeating Southern Miss 55-32. While it was a team effort, several players had outstanding individual efforts. We award our game balls for exceptional performance, presented by Pat Clynes and The Fritz Kennel.

Sophomore RB Jalen Rhodes had a career day Saturday. The Rowlett-native’s 165 rushing yards was a personal best. He also scored three rushing touchdowns, which tied a school record. In addition, Rhodes’ 80 yard touchdown run goes in the record books as one of the longest plays from scrimmage.

Following the game, Rhodes praised the offensive line: “I saw a lot of hard work and determination. They (the offensive line) opened up a lot of holes for us. They were relentless at the point of attack and just did everything they could.”

For exceptional individual performance, Jalen Rhodes earns our offensive game ball.

Junior Safety Nate Gaines had a big day for the Roadrunners’ defense. The Mesquite-native recorded 10 total tackles that included several big hits. In the third quarter, Gaines appeared to injure his shoulder but he would re-enter the game and remained effective. He also recorded two pass breakups and forced a fumble.

Following the game, Gaines said: “It was exhilarating. That first possession just proved that we played these guys. We can stop them. We held each other accountable, and we had goals. You look at the statistics with Southern Miss, they're leading first in every category in the conference. So that was a challenge to us to go out there and kind of deplete their offensive game”

For exceptional individual performance, Nate Gaines earns our defensive game ball.
