Keys to Victory vs North Texas
UTSA has been at their best this season when QB Dalton Sturm plays well, or at the very least is efficient. North Texas’ defense has shown themselves to be aggressive this season. They blitz often, to say the least. The onus will fall on the offensive line and Sturm to be able to identify the blitzes, provide ample protection, and get the ball out of the pocket quickly. This will be critical Saturday.
CREATE TURNOVERS/BIG PLAYS
The key to UTSA’s recent success has been the creating of big plays. Whether it come from long passes, long runs, forced/recovered fumbles, or gadget plays, UTSA has done well when they make these type of game-changing plays. Look for Head Coach Frank Wilson to dig into his bag of trick plays to make things happen again this week. If not, the ‘Runners will likely need to make some traditional type of big plays to beat an improved North Texas team.
GRIND IT OUT
Rivalry games are not suppose to be easy. We’ve seen how challenging these types of games can be the last two weeks vs UTEP and Rice. North Texas brings a similar challenge. On any given Saturday, any one of these programs are capable of beating each other. So it’s not expected to be easy. There will be pressure situations and moments of unrest. But if UTSA can continue to make positive plays, the Roadrunners are more than capable of grinding this one out.
