Clayton Gets An Offer

Size and speed are usually a perfect blend for any student athlete and it's no exception for this Grace Community wide receiver.

When you see a stat line of 119 carries for 1511 yards, and 26 TD's, you don't think of a wide receiver. Kade Clayton of Tyler Grace HS was asked to help out at running back last season and he did that and more. The 6'1" 185lb target has a good frame and game breaking speed. Two weeks ago at a combine he turned in an eye popping laser time of 4.4 flat. That's why Coach Fran and his staff see him being a lethal weapon on the outside as a deep threat. As a wide-out, he averaged a gaudy 28 yards per catch, hauling in 19 catches for 526 yards and finding the end zone 6 times.

His 1st offer was from the 'Cats and it came last week. Clayton was taken by the news when he got the call.

"It was a surprise because I had only talked to one of the coaches once before and then I went down there for the junior day. It was surprising," said Clayton.

Although he's been on campus once, Texas State is still a bit of a new program to him. He has another offer from SMU and programs such as Houston, Tulsa, Texas Tech, Duke, Baylor and others are interested.

Kade did say that Texas State is pretty high up there, considering that they offered first. It gives him a sense of belief from the coaching staff and strengthens his own.

Speaking of strengths, Clayton says he likes to go across the middle for the ball, but feels he's a pretty well rounded wide-out. Whether it's his good hands, athleticism or speed, Clayton has the ear marks of a division one talent. He doesn't lag in getting physical either as he takes pride in his blocking.

Linebackers Coach Brad Franchione is the area recruiter for Clayton and he's also been in contact with WR's Coach Jason Johnson.
