Shelley Gets #2

Size and speed are a premium on either side of the trenches. This Greater Houston athlete has good enough size, speed and athleticism that he's starting to get noticed and pick up offers. Texas State is the second program to extend.

As a defensive end, some teams will only look at prospects who measure in at 6'4" or bigger. There are plenty of reasons why Klein Oak's Javon Shelley can potentially play on the d-line or at linebacker on Saturday's.

He has good enough size standing 6'3" 230lbs, and quickness. He's posted a 4.62 time when running the 40. He uses that speed and burst off the edge to cause havoc and get to the QB.

The Bobcats saw Shelley during the spring and contact had gone quiet until a few weeks ago.

"They came to spring ball but I hadn't heard anything. He (DC Navair) called me back and told me they were offering," said Shelley.

Houston is his other offer. OU, Texas A&M, Baylor and Nevada are all showing medium to strong interest.

Shelley was a 13-5A All District Performer for Klein Oak HS.

At the moment, he still considers himself wide open when considering programs that offer or are showing interest. Ideally, he would like to have a decision before the start of his senior year, if not he's willing to wait until after the season.

If all goes according to plan, he should be making the trek to San Marcos soon and see what the Bobcats have to offer.

"I've watched them on youtube and I'm probably going to go down there to see what it's like, but I haven't been there yet. I'm going to the camp in a few days."
