Commitment #3

With family ties to the Bobcat program, this offensive lineman knew that he wanted to play for Texas State. He was simply waiting on the offer and when it came he had no hesitation and put a call into the coaching staff.

Last week, Kannon Mackey picked up an offer from the Texas State Staff. It didn't take long for him to pick up the phone and call his area recruiter to let him know that he was committing to be a Bobcat.

"I called Coach Conway and he was actually on vacation," Mackey said. "He was real excited to hear that I accepted the offer and committed. I think he was fishing on the lake and he told me that he had never picked up a commitment while on vacation before. He was pretty excited."

Mackey grew up in a house with a strong Bobcat presence. His mother was a Bobcat and her experience and ties really rubbed off on him.

"My mom graduated from Texas State so I've been wanting to go there for a while," Mackey said. "I've been talking about it with my family. We were just waiting on the offer to commit. I knew I wanted to go there and I knew that it was the best school I was going to get an offer from."

Kannon is a 6'3" 270lb interior o-lineman who can play both center or guard. He hasn't been told specifically by the coaches where he'll start off, but he's thinking most likely at guard.

The Bobcats are getting a very aggressive blocker who has a great motor and won't stop until the whistle. Mackey is the 3rd commit of the 2014 class for Coach Dennis Franchione and company.
