Johnson joins Bobcat commit list

Impressions, commitment and desire mean a lot to people and they meant a lot to recent commit Stephan Johnson this week when he visited the Texas State campus.

Johnson, the 6'0" 180-pound safety from College Park High School, who spoke with BI earlier this week for an update, was a second team All-District 14-5A safety.

"I really like the family atmosphere here," Johnson said. "My visit on Wednesday was great, the best visit I've had out of all the other colleges. Some coaches at other colleges had something come up and they sent the graduate assistant to show me around but with Coach Naviar he made sure he was there for me."

Johnson felt like the coaches and staff were not only there for him on the field, but wanted success in the classroom to go hand in hand.

"(Naivar) took me and my mom and my dad on a personal tour, showed us the athletic side of Texas State and the academic side of Texas State," Johnson said. "It showed that the coaching staff wants their players to be successful on and off the field."

Johnson's heard only good things about Texas State and with friends, family and old rivals already on campus and in workouts, Johnson is ready to start his newest life chapter.

"Every single person I've asked about Texas State - from friends my age to friends that I know that are already there to my head coach, Coach Carson - I have not gotten a bad response to Texas State. Everyone says its a great school and it's a good fit for me. I feel more comfortable here than any other school."
